Wire and Cable Identification Tags
LEM Products, Inc. stocks a variety of wire and cable identification tags, including fiber optic cable tags, underground residential transmission (URD) tags, and phase tags. These tags are durable enough to withstand the conditions in which they are used, whether they are outdoors or underground.
Fiber Optic Cable Tags
2” x 3.5” self-laminating fiber optic cable tags are made of rigid PVC material and come with a polyester self-sealing cover. These tags are resistant to moisture and grease and can be written on with a pen or pencil. Choose from 2 styles, blank or pre-printed. Both versions have (6) 0.125” slotted holes, so the tags can be easily installed with nylon cable ties.
URD Tags
LEM blank underground residential transmission (URD) tags and kits are non-corrosive, tamper-resistant, and permanent. They are constructed from PVC material and are available with and without self-laminating covers. These tags can be filled out with nothing more than a pen or a pencil, which makes them easy to use. This makes for quick, easy, and permanent marking and identification of underground cables in cable vaults, cable tunnels, conduits, and other ancillary locations within the underground transmission network. Transformer boxes typically display high voltage labels but also have a similar usage to URD tags.
A variety of sizes is available from 1.5″ x 3.0″ to 2.5″ x 5.75″. Standard colors are Red, Blue, White, and Yellow.
Phase Tags
LEM Phase Tags, used to identify electrical power system phases, are manufactured on UV-resistant polyethylene material, which is non-conductive and non-corrosive, making them suitable for applications above ground, such as utility poles, or below ground in utility cable vaults.
Available material colors are Red with white characters, Blue with white characters, Yellow with black characters, and White with black characters.
Standard Phase Tag legends are: 1 Phase, 2 Phase, 3 Phase, A, B, C.
Size range includes:
1.75″ x 3.9375″ with rounded ends and 6 attachment slots, made from 0.035″ thick polyethylene.
2″ x 4″ with 4 corner mounting holes, made from 0.055″ thick polyethylene.
4″ x 4″ with 2 mounting holes top and bottom, made from 0.055″ thick polyethylene.
Custom phase tags are available in other sizes, shapes and materials such as reflective lexan or embedded fiberglass.

The Safety Benefits of Using Wire and Cable Identification Tags
Properly identifying electrical and fiber optic cables is essential for safety and efficiency in utility and industrial environments. Cable identification tags, such as fiber optic cable tags and underground residential distribution (URD) tags, provide clear, immediate labeling to prevent accidental damage, misconnection, and safety hazards.

Enhanced Safety and Organization
Clearly marked cables help technicians, contractors, and maintenance crews quickly identify lines, reducing the risk of accidental disconnection or damage. Fiber optic cable tags, for example, prevent confusion between power and communication lines, minimizing the likelihood of service interruptions and costly repairs. URD tags play a crucial role in underground electrical installations, ensuring that lines are properly identified before excavation or maintenance work begins.
Durability for Long-Term Performance
Wire and cable identification tags are designed for harsh environments, using heavy-duty PVC material that resists UV exposure, moisture, and chemicals. This ensures that the tags remain legible and intact even in outdoor or underground conditions.
Protection for Handwritten Information
LEM’s cable tags feature self-laminating covers that shield handwritten information from wear, weather, and contaminants. This protective layer prevents fading and smudging, ensuring that crucial details such as circuit numbers, installation dates, or voltage ratings remain visible and legible for years.
