Supply Source

Water distribution systems begin with the supply source. These sources include deep ground water, aquifers, springs and wells along with rivers, lakes and reservoirs. These sources require protection from contamination and theft as well as warnings to water utility personnel and the general public. Warnings include notifications of private property, video surveillance, no trespassing and associated fines and penalties. There are also hidden dangers at areas such as dams, where unexpected releases of water can cause sudden rises in water levels. Deep reservoir waters are extremely cold and dangerous to swimmers. Hidden submerged objects such as rocks and water intake structures can be a danger to swimmers and boaters.

LEM Products, Inc. offers a variety of stock and customized perimeter security signs, danger signs, video surveillance signs, dam signs and more to address all of these dangers and warnings for water treatment facilities.

Stock and Custom Signs are all formatted to comply with ANSI and OSHA Z535.4 codes.

Purification

The infrastructure of pipes, pumps, valves, tanks and more at a typical water purification plant is highly complex and multi-layered.  It is a system requiring numerous forms of safety, instructional and security identification signage and labeling.

Water is pumped in from the supply source and the process of cleaning debris and contaminants begins.  Screening tanks remove large debris while coagulation and flocculation tanks remove suspended particles from silt to algae and bacteria.  Settling tanks or clarifiers remove floc and sludge.  Sand filters remove more contaminants and odors.  Additional steps include deionization, chemical additives, chlorine treatment, UV treatment and more.

  • Perimeter Security Signs alert to Private Property and Video Surveillance.  A variety of materials from aluminum to porcelain ceramic on steel provide excellent outdoor durability and fade resistance.
  • Accident Prevention and Hazardous Communication Tags warn about dangerous chemicals and biohazards and are made of rigid vinyl with metal tear-proof eyelets.

Storage

Water towers, tanks and reservoirs provide water storage for a variety of usages including stabilizing pressure in the distribution system, reserves for fire fighting and emergencies, and to provide water during pump failures or supply shortages.  Tank types include elevated tanks, in-ground tanks and open or closed reservoirs.

Security is a concern because tanks and reservoirs have the potential to be an easy point of entry for contamination of a distribution system.  Perimeter Security Signs alert to Private Property and Video Surveillance.  A variety of materials from aluminum to porcelain ceramic on steel provide excellent outdoor durability and fade resistance.

Maintenance and monitoring of water towers and tanks requires access to confined spaces.  Confined Space Signs warn of the requirements and dangers associated with these spaces such as permits and air quality testing before entry.  Additional requirements such as harnesses and lifelines are covered by both Confined Space Signs and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Signs.  LEM’s OSHA / ANSI compliant signs are available in a variety of outdoor durable, fade and rust resistant materials.

Pipe Markers and Arrow Labels identify pipe contents and direction of flow.  Markers are made in a variety of sizes to accommodate various diameters of piping.  Valves and their functions can be identified with Valve Tags, available in blank or pre-printed plastic or engraved metal.

Distribution

Transmission and trunk mains, distribution mains and service lines transport treated, potable water from storage tanks and reservoirs to the end-users. Locating, servicing, monitoring, metering and securing this infrastructure of piping requires durable identification and warning markers.

Water Meter Labels are 3” diameter adhesive backed labels for water meter covers that identify the water utility, provide contact information for reactivation and warn of the penalties of tampering with the meter.

Buried Utility Line Warning Stakes from LEM are available in two styles of construction to accommodate different applications. The High Performance Marker with the symmetrical three rib design is the best choice for overall visibility and flexibility. The design combines the strength and characteristics of flat markers with the low bending radius curved type markers. The Economical Marker is designed for applications where less flexibility and a lower profile is preferred. The dual rib design increases stiffness and improves installation. The design provides for easy center drilling and attachment of optical signs and hardware. Made of glass reinforced polyester composite, our markers are available in standard lengths from 62 to 90 inches and in a range of colors including White, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green, Red and Brown.

LEM’s Standard Underground Buried Line Tapes help to identify underground utility lines and pipelines to prevent accidental damage or severing of the lines. The tapes are color coded according to APWA (American Public Works Association) standards to uniformly identify the specific utility types. Tapes are manufactured from 4 mil polyethylene material to prevent degradation by natural elements in the soil. Detectable Underground Tapes are manufactured on an aluminum core for easy location by metal detectors.

LEM Utility Marking Flags are the ideal above ground marking system for buried lines. Manufactured from a superior formulated PVC material, these flags resist the breakage and tearing of high wind conditions and cold weather down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit. Stock flags are 4” x 5” and are supplied on 30”, 16 gauge steel staffs. Available in 7 blank colors and 10 pre-printed legends in APWA colors.

Fire Flow

LEM Hydrant Rings provide important information to firefighters regarding the functionality and ownership of hydrants. Stock Hydrant Rings are UV and weather resistant plastic disks with printed legends. Materials are available in a variety of colors.

Out-of-Service Hydrant Rings provide identification of fire hydrants determined to be out-of-service or requiring maintenance. Fire hydrant rings are also used to mark hydrants for insufficient water flow, potential for backflow into the water distribution system and unacceptably low pressure to area customers.

Hydrant Rings are easily applied in the field to the hydrant Steamer nozzle or to the smaller Hose nozzle depending on the hydrant type. The rings have various inner opening diameters to accommodate a range of nozzle sizes. Once the nozzle cap is replaced, the hydrant ring cannot be taken off until the next time the cap is removed.

LEM also produces NFPA Flow Rings which are color coded to comply with the National Fire Protection Agency’s standard ratings for water flow capacity. Class AA (Blue) with a rated capacity of 1500 gpm or greater; Class A (Green) with a rated capacity of 1000-1499 gpm; Class B (Orange) with a rated capacity of 500-999 gpm; and Class C (Red) with a rated capacity of less than 500 gpm.

The rigid plastic used to make hydrant rings cannot be torn by hand making them tamper-proof. The through-body color cannot be scratched or worn away keeping the color coding permanent.

Hydrant Rings are available in both stock and custom legends, reflective and non-reflective and in various sizes to accommodate the range of fire hydrant nozzle dimensions. The larger outside diameter of 10.5” has inside diameter options of 7”, 5.75” and 4.75”. The smaller outside diameter of 7” has an inside diameter of 3.1 “

All stock formats can be customized to display company logos, phone numbers and custom texts.

Reclamation

Sewage, wastewater and stormwater travels through sewer pipes to a wastewater treatment plant. Screens remove large debris while grit tanks and lifting stations remove large solids for transport to a refuse facility. Settling tanks or clarifiers remove additional solids before the water is sent to bio-reactors where bacteria break down harmful matter. Secondary clarifiers continue the cleansing process before the final chemical treatment with chlorine. The treated water then flows over weirs and ultimately back into the water supply.

Perimeter Security Signs alert to Private Property and Video Surveillance. A variety of materials from aluminum to porcelain ceramic on steel provide excellent outdoor durability and fade resistance.

Fleet Graphics

Promoting and maintaining brand identity along with DOT required information on corporate fleet trucks and vehicles requires a supply chain partner like LEM with the capabilities to produce weather and fade resistant graphics to both customer standards and regulated standards such as US DOT vehicle numbers and company name as well as additionally required safety markings. Fleet graphics have a range of applications beyond commercial vehicles. These include law enforcement and military vehicles, school buses, public transportation systems like trains and buses, ambulances and fire engines, utility company service trucks, farm equipment and slow moving vehicles.

Commercial interstate carriers must be marked with a US DOT identification number along with the motor carrier’s trade name. These characters must contrast with the color of the vehicle and be legible during daylight from a distance of 50 feet.

Commercial logos for branding and identity can be printed on vinyl, engineer grade reflective vinyl or prismatic grade reflective vinyl, all with UV inhibiting over-laminates for durability, moisture and fade resistance.

ANSI & OSHA compliant Machine Warning Labels can be customized to dictate specific operational instructions and safety procedures for vehicles that utilize moving parts and controls such as utility bucket trucks, sanitation trucks and cranes. Constructed of pressure sensitive vinyl with a UV inhibiting clear over-laminate, these labels can withstand extreme temperatures and are moisture resistant to hold up to power-washing.

OSHA format Wide Turn labels alert drivers to allow extra space for tractor trailers and oversized vehicles that require a larger berth to turn corners. These labels can be sized and cut to conform to the vehicle shapes for optimal positioning and visibility.

Conspicuity tapes will provide added visibility for safety. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulation Part 393 Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation, § 393.11: Lamps and reflective devices, requires retroreflective sheeting on commercial trailers of certain sizes and weights. The retroreflective material gives high visibility, day and night.
